According to Dr. Nikolas Stihl, in the early days of STIHL the products were colored a dark red. In the early 1970s it was decided that STIHL needed a more modern look and several branding changes were made. One was to change the color to a more dynamic, bright and modern color choosing orange. Other changes included changing the logo and creating a specialized typeface. The orange over grey combination is now a registered trademark of STIHL.

This can cause internal engine damage. STIHL recommends that you do not run your engine at wide open throttle without a load. A blower is under a load at all times, a trimmer is under a load as long as the trimmer head is in place and the line is to the correct length. A chainsaw is under a load when the bar and chain are in a cut.

Please go to the STIHL Recall Webpage to see if your unit is listed. If it is part of the recall please take it to any authorized STIHL Dealer.
Our business operates under different guidelines for quite a few reasons, not the least of which are liability and warranty issues. Dealers are required to unpack, prep and test every unit they sell. They then take the customer through a short training session on the parts and controls of the unit both for their safety and protection as well as for familiarity of the power tool in question. This practice also supports our Dealers, who are required to service, as well as sell, the product. Parts are also only ordered through Dealers for the aforementioned reasons as well as part familiarity and any exchange issues that may arise. It's a lot easier to deal with a living person at a Dealership who can expedite the resolution of an issue despite the inconvenience of actually having to travel to the Dealer location, a procedure that the internet admittedly eliminates. Still, this hands-on approach has continued to serve our company efficiently and well, even with the internet now several decades along.
STIHL Inc. does not sell or refurbish products.
STIHL Inc. does not release IPLs (Illustrated Parts Lists) to anyone except authorized Dealers, technicians and distributors of our products. This approach provides the end user, in working through an authorized STIHL Dealer, the best opportunity for product performance and maintenance. Please see your local authorized STIHL Dealer for assistance in looking up parts. Parts lists have been constantly changing from the point at which your unit was first produced. By consulting your local STIHL Dealer, he will help ensure that you receive the correct part the first time.
It is the Dealer's responsibility to register the product with the customer before the customer leaves the store. The Dealers have their own service website for this purpose as well as for technical and parts look-up issues. This is why we do not offer a website for this purpose for customers. There are several specific questions that must be agreed upon by both the Dealer and the customer, such as proper instruction in the safe operation of the outdoor power equipment, and also to ensure that the proper instruction manual, tools and safety equipment have been offered to or received by the customer at the time of sale. Your sales receipt will help us identify the date of purchase if the unit has not yet been registered.
Please contact STIHL. Be sure to include a brief description, Dealer name, city and state.
STIHL does not release new products at a specific time of year. They are introduced when they become available.
STIHL Inc. does not offer specials or discounts. We sell to 12 different distributors throughout the country who in turn set up and supply Dealers within their respective territories. These distributors offer promotions throughout the year. You will need to check with your local authorized STIHL Dealer for any specials or promotions. As a rule, trimmer and blower promotions are in the spring and early summer and chainsaw and blower promotions are offered in the late summer and fall.
STIHL does not produce a dedicated snow blower. However, our STIHL PowerSweep™ attachment available for the STIHL KombiMotor and YARD BOSS® units is ideal for removing water and light snow from hard, flat surfaces. In addition, our handheld and backpack blowers are suitable for light snow removal if the snow accumulation is not too great.
Our name is pronounced exactly like the metal "steel."
STIHL recommends a 50:1 mix when using STIHL branded two-cycle mix oil (2.6 oz. of STIHL branded oil for 1 gallon of premium gasoline) on all of our gasoline-powered equipment.
All STIHL gasoline-powered engines can be used with up to a 10% (E10) blend of ethanol in the gasoline/engine oil mix. We also recommend that if a unit will be left unused for more than 30 days that it be stored "dry." This means emptying the fuel tank and then restarting and letting the unit run until all the fuel is consumed and the engine stops. For maximum performance and engine life expectancy, we also recommend using STIHL HP Ultra 2-cycle engine oil.
Note: STIHL recommends use of fuel with no more than 10% ethanol content. Using fuel with greater than 10% ethanol content may cause damage to your equipment and may void your STIHL warranty. Learn More…

Your local STIHL Dealer is the only way to obtain parts for your STIHL product. STIHL normally continues to manufacture repair parts for 10 years after the last production of a product and continues to sell them for as long as supplies last.

A good test to determine proper oiling of the bar and chain assembly will be to lay a piece of paper or cardboard on the ground or a stump. Start the unit and hold it in such a way that the tip of the bar is approximately one foot above the paper. Apply full throttle and see if a thin line of oil appears on the paper. If this occurs, the unit is oiling properly. If your chainsaw is not operating properly, please see your local STIHL Dealer.
Many people type www.STIHL.com into their browser. This directs them to the worldwide site managed by our founding company in Germany, ANDREAS STIHL AG & Co., KG. It lists all of the countries with STIHL websites in alphabetical order, and that is the reason why the U.S. website is not listed first. Always enter www.stihlusa.com in your browser to go directly to the STIHL USA website.
